Organology Study Group

Please join us in Chicago at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society, November 14–17. The OSG session this year will feature three exciting papers from doctoral candidates:

  • Instruments as Specimens: How the Photographs of 19th-Century English Instrument Collections Made Organology a Science (Maia Perez, University of Illinois)
  • The Plek Machine: A Study of Automation in California’s Guitar Repair Shops (Jon Turner, University of California Berkley)
  • Berthelot’s Serpent Tablature: A Blueprint for a Lost Musical Instrument from Colonial Canada (Alexander Belser, McGill University)

The session will take place on Friday, November 15th from 12:30 to 2:00 PM, and will begin with some brief announcements from OSG officers in lieu of a formal business meeting.
